Highly-acclaimed for its Sauvignon Blanc
grape variety and unique limestone soil,
the Loire Valley contains a vast majority
of France’s sprawling vineyards and
wineries. From the prestigious, world-renowned
cellars of Vouvray to the small, intimate
communities of Bourré and Cheverny,
the varying wines delight the palette and
satisfy a wide range of tastes.
Culinary
program participants will live in the 1,000-year-old
Abbey of Pontlevoy in the heart of the region,
filled with students and interns from around
the world. This historical and picturesque
setting provides the beauty and inspiration
to fully immerse you in the essence of French
culture and cuisine.
Cuisine
Crêperie:
Go behind the scenes and into the kitchen
with local French chefs to learn the art
of preparing traditional French galettes
and crêpes while participating in
a hands-on demonstration.
Gastronomy:
Discover the diversity of French dining!
Students will experience Haute Cuisine in
fine traditional French restaurants, and
then compare the presentation and cuisine
with the more relaxed atmosphere of typical,
modern French bistros.
Markets
Appreciate
why the French accentuate and demand fresh
produce and meats in their recipes through
discovering the local French markets and
choosing from the wide array of fresh, available
ingredients.
Develop
an understanding of why certain recipes
go in and out of season and learn the specialties
of regions throughout France.
