The
Abbey Program
The
Vision
|
|
In
its effort to establish a new paradigm in
global education, The Eur-Am Center is partnering
with educational facilities around the world
to develop a unique concept in study-abroad
learning for students: "The Abbey:
A New School of Thought." The Abbey
provides the platform for an educational
journey and an innovative approach to cultural
immersion. Focusing on the needs of globally
ambitious undergraduates, The Abbey program
is committed to delivering excellence in
international education across the entire
academic spectrum. The Abbey program's innovative
interdisciplinary approach to global learning
challenges the notion that students often
jeopardize college credits and/or becoming
fluent in a foreign language to experience
cultural immersion.

-
Exposure to another culture is valuable
at any stage of a college career, but
especially so at the freshman and sophomore
levels, as insights gained can enrich
the balance of the college experience.
-
Courses
are taught in English at The Abbey, except
for optional French and other foreign
language courses offered to all students
at all levels.
-
Students
take a full academic load of between 12
and 18 credit hours per semester in an
American university system, and the credits
are fully transferable.
-
Field
research and study trips are integral
to the academic experience.
-
The
pedagogy features team teaching, involving
two or more faculty, who often approach
the subject matter from different disciplinary
perspectives.
